About WiM

Objective:

To promote the professional development of women working in the sector - worldwide - by offering a website with relevant content to enhance women's knowledge and possibilities. This website will provide women with networking opportunities, business synergies, information on furthering their education, job opportunities, a place to exchange views and find service providers, as well as much more. It will centre on two main pillars: information and business opportunities.

Content:

The website will contain information on all WIM groups worldwide, jobs, WIM service providers, calendar/events, library, forum, education, news etc. The idea is to provide a platform for all WIMs to communicate with each other and build relationships regardless of where they are based. In addition, it will endeavour to regroup all information in one place.

Mining is historically a male-dominated sector and our aim is to be the first stop for all women in the sector, providing them with all the information and tools necessary to enhance their careers and promote their role as women in a wider business community.

Reasoning:

Small groups - formal and informal - have appeared locally and some are already very active. However, so far no attempt has been made at bringing them all together and bridging the distances through modern technology. Mining is happening in every corner of this world and the aim is to bring people closer together through the same platform. The portal will also be accessible to those working "in the field" far away from towns and local WIM groups and who generally have no access to a network and similar source of information. We believe this tool will encourage more local groups to be formed.

Definition:

Mining from our perspective is not to be understood in a too literal way: apart from extracting and exploring ore, we define mining to encompass finance, academia, smeltering, research & development, consultancy, environmental, equipment, legal - everything and everyone related to the mining sector or who is part of the chain making it happen.
