PDF Document *The 4th International Conference of Mining Women took place from September 27 to 29, 2006, in the City of Ica (Peru), under the name "MINING AND HUMAN RIGHTS".
The main purpose of this event is to promote the analysis of social and economical policies that may contribute to the sustainability of mining activity in harmony with its environment, underlining the role of women in mining. Like in the previous International Conference of Mining Women, which took place in the City of Trujillo in August 2004, the Fourth Conference is being organized by the WAAIME - PERU, a non-profit organization formed by women who are related with mining activities, which supports university students of different disciplines related to the Earth Sciences, through the granting of scholarships. The Conference is sponsored by the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy and the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru. PDF Document *The 3rd International Women and Mining Conference successfully conducted from 1-9 October, 2004 in Visakhapatnam, India with participants hailing from 21 countries of Africa, North and South America, Europe, the Pacific, and Asia, including women from all regions of India. The conference presentations ranged from issues of displacement of tribal communities in the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, India and Australia; the health impacts of mining due to the cyanide spill in the gold mines of Kyrgyztan; the problems of radiation the uranium mines; stories of the conflict diamonds of Sierra Leone; the struggles of the mining trade unions of South Africa, Canada and Zimbabwe; the child and women labourers involved in gold-panning and artisanal mining in Nicaragua, and Peru; the pollution of rivers in Ghana.
Last year the 4th conference was organised in Peru.
